VFW POST 6240–RUSSELL,
KANSAS
POST
COMMANDER – LANCE WAYMASTER
Greetings Comrades! I sure want to thank everyone who came to the August Stag-Stagette. We had a great
turnout that night serving 121 people a very good smothered steak meal from the Log Cabin. In September
we plan to serve rib-eye steaks. I hope to see you there. We have 35 members who serve
in our Color Guard and we are always looking for new members to join. If you would like to participate
please let me know. You can call me to sign up for the Color Guard at 785-483-2060. It
is an honor to serve in the Color Guard and on the Firing Squad, but some families are concerned that some weather conditions
are too harsh for us to appear at their loved one’s burial ceremony. We take great pride in our duty
to honor our fellow veterans. The Color Guard and Firing Squad is ready to provide this service for our
comrades no matter what the conditions. Whether it be 100 or 0 degrees, rain or snow we feel our fellow
veterans deserve and have earned this honor.

The results for August are in and we are still
moving along. At the present time we have $105.00 in hand, and with the $500.00 we transmitted last month
we have a total of $605.00. We need to put together another $495.00 to earn our VFW-PAC Golden Eagle Award
for our Post Commander Lance Waymaster. He is a fine Post Commander and he certainly deserves all the reorganization
we can give him. Since our last report we have the following contributors; Fred Boxberger, Melvin Flegler,
Carol Murphy, Melvin Janne, Deloris Janne, Jim Young, Jack Benander, Forrest D. McCoy, Rosemary McCoy, Barry Hoffman, Allen
L. Atwell, Larry Campbell, Lance and Mary Pat Waymaster. If you have not yet considered giving to this
fund we would be very appreciative if you could again repeat our long and prestigious Post history of the VFW-PAC Golden Eagle
Award, for the seventh year. Please refer to the Kansas VFW State Bulletin, with a photograph receiving
the award from National VFW Past Commander in Chief and Washington Director Robert Wallace along with State Commander Phil
Irby, the recipient of the award our Past Post Commander Jack Benander and Past Commander-in-Chief Norman G. Staab. On behalf
of our Post we want to sincerely thank you for your contributions towards this important program.

Post Service Officer & Scholarship: Fred Weigel, Jr.
Priority 8 Veterans are eligible now for VA care and can qualify for
VA care. You can call the Topeka VA hospital at 1-800-574-8387, Extension 54408 and ask for eligibility.
Any student that received a VFW scholarship in May and has not received their money must furnish the Post with their
school enrollment slip. Please do this as soon as possible!
Ladies Auxiliary – Becky Partridge
In August we welcomed five new ladies into the auxiliary, Christine Maier,
Andrea Cross, Christina Bourland, Jackie Bay and a transfer from Plainville, Mary Hammerschmidt. Welcome aboard
ladies. We are sending out dues notices so please respond with your dues as soon as possible, as it will
be appreciated. If you know of anyone who is interested and eligible to join the auxiliary let me or one of our members
know so we can get them an application. We had Sixth District School of Instruction in Osborne and I know I learned
a lot about our programs and changes in them. One program that is always on our minds is Hospital and Vans. They
are asking each post and auxiliary to bring socks for men and ladies, also knee highs for the VA Hospitals for Christmas.
There is a box out at the post to put these items in or you can give them to me and I will take care of them for you.
Another project that Hospital has this year is for the women vets. They are asking for body soap, perfume, makeup, scarves,
and jewelry, anything to make a woman feel more like a woman. These items can be left at the post also or given
to myself or Joan Weigel to be taken down to the VA hospitals for the women. I know I am cleaning out my jewelry box
for this project. Speaking of the VA Hospital we will be going down there soon for our Patio Party. The date hasn't
been confirmed yet but will be soon. We will be taking clothes, pants, jeans, shirts, skirts, for men and women
both. We will also be taking cake mixes, coffee, cookies, books, videos, toilet articles, cassettes and movies just
about anything they might need and enjoy. We do the Patio Party for the VA Hospital in Topeka and we always
have fun and the patients really do enjoy us doing this. If you would like to help or go along, let Becky or Joan know. We
will be serving them lunch, more on that later. The VOD and Patriots Pens information will be on the way to the schools
as soon as school resumes, as well as the information on Endowment Scholarships. If you have any questions,
get a hold of Sarah Rhodes or Marlene Mighell on these projects. Thank you to everyone who helped with
the 4th of July and the 4-H Fair. We had a good turn out at both. Don't forget that there are Cancer Grants, if
you need information, get a hold of Jean Larsen for these. In August we Draped the Charter in Memory of Betty
Ingram. If you know of someone who is a member and has been in the hospital or sick please let Becky know so we
can drop them a card and let them know we care. Don't forget to get those dues turned in right away and hope to
see you at our meeting on September 1, at 8:00p.m.
Men’s Auxiliary
The VFW Men’s Auxiliary would like to remind
you that your membership dues need to be sent in right away, if you have not already paid them. Please
mail them to P.O. Box 265, Russell, KS 67665
