Our post is honored to serve our community in many various ways.  Our services to the community are basically in four areas.  Veterans Service, Legislative Action, Youth Development and Community Service.

VETERANS SERVICE

1.  Provide lodging, meals and automobile fuel for members in need who are in transit.

2.  Provide a patio party for hospitalized veterans at Bldg. #3 at the Topeka VA Hospital.

3.  Provide transportation for local veterans to and from doctors appointments. 

4.  Our post has a 35 member Honor Guard Roster which we can call on to provide Military Rites for our departed veterans. 

5.  Hold our annual Buddy Poppy drive, and funds received are used for the post veterans relief fund. 

LEGISLATIVE ACTION

1.  Encourage citizens to vote in city, county, state and national elections. 

2.  Participate in the National Policical Action Committee.

     A.  VFW/PAC endorses those candidates that support legislation that benefit all veterans.

     B.  Each year a Golden Eagle Award is given to the post that has contributed $1,000.00 to the VFW/PAC.  Our post now has on display in the case in the breezeway four consecutive awards and will receive the 5th at the Department Convention in June.  Mr. Norman Staab has been the PAC chairman for the past several years.

3.  Correspond with members of congress on both State and National level on matters of concern to citizens and veterans. 

4.  Support our National Headquarters on resolutions adopted at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention that are brought before our national congress. 

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

1.  Assist local Law Enforcement with the child bicycle safety program. 

2.  Encourage schools in our area to have students participate in the annual Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay programs that are designed to inspire patriotism and citizenship in students.

3.  Participate with local Law Enforcement in the child identification registration program.

4.  Annually award scholarships to students of members of our organization to further their education. 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

1.  Provide Color Guard for the raising of the National Colors at Russell High School home football games. 

2.  Provide programs for Memorial and Veterans Day programs for community participation.

3.  Provide speakers to surrounding communities for their Memorial Day programs when requested. 

4.  Provide Color Guard for city sponsored parades when requested. 

5.  Annually support Freedom Fireworks and participate in the 4th of July celebration at the post home.

6.  Encourage Law Enforcement departments to nominate officers for the Veterans of Foreign Wars "Officer of the Year" Award. 

7.  Encourage the local Fire Department to nominate a member or members of the department for the Veterans of Foreign Wars "Firefighter of the Year" Award.

8.  Encourage the nomination of personnel for the "Emergency Medical Technician of the Year" Award.  

9.  Provide hospital equipment to citizens at no cost such as Wheelchairs, Walkers, Canes, Crutches, Hospital Beds, etc.  

     A.  We will accept donations for such equipment to further our service in this area to the community.  

10.  Provide "Bingo" at the post home every Monday night for those who enjoy the game.  Early Bird starts at 7:00 PM and Regular Games at 7:30 PM.

11.  We will make ourselves available to the community in any means possible, if requested.
